1. WHAT’S A B, S1-D0 CLASS INSULATED METAL PANEL?

It means that the insulated metal panel has an outstanding reaction to fire. Let’s see it in details:
The “B” class indicates that the sandwich panel contributes very little to the spread of fire. The “B” class is the second-best, after “A”: insulated panels can reach the “A” class when they have Rockwool as an insulated core.
“S1” and “d0″ refer to the production of toxic smoke and incandescent droplets.
“S1” means that the insulated panels, when in contact with fire, will emit minimal amounts of toxic smoke, diminishing the harm in the case of people breathing it.
“D0″ means that the insulated panels, when in contact with fire, won’t produce any incandescent droplet, therefore preventing the fire from spreading.

2. WHY DO I NEED TO USE PIR INSULATED PANELS?

PIR panels have a better behavior to fire than PUR sandwich panels. It would be best if you considered using PIR because of its better fire performance.

3. WHAT IS THE PRICE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PUR AND PIR?

Often PUR panels can be cheaper about from 5 to 10% than PIR panels, but the difference isn’t worth the risk of a fire.

4. PIR VS. PUR. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

PUR and PIR have the same chemical base and offer the same excellent insulating properties. PIR insulated panels have a higher rate of a chemical component called Isocyanate, which dramatically improves their fire behavior.

5. PIR VS. PUR, HOW CAN I SEE THE DIFFERENCE?

The difference lies in the foam’s chemical composition, and one can hardly see it: the color and consistency of PUR and PIR insulated panels are very similar.

6. PIR VS. PUR, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY COME IN CONTACT WITH A FIRE SOURCE?

When a PUR insulated panels come in contact with a fire source, it catches fire and keeps burning if the fire source extinguishes. An ignited PUR insulated panel becomes itself a fire source that spreads the fire to the whole building. When a fire source approaches PIR panels, the foam will crystalize and char, preventing the fire from igniting the core further, thus preventing it from spreading. If the fire source extinguishes, the panel will self-extinguish.
